Standing up for our Veterans

We owe our Veterans a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. In addition to giving thanks, an important part of honoring America’s veterans is ensuring we’ve got their back when they leave the military and return home to potential challenges of furthering their education, finding a good-paying job, and staying healthy.

For me, giving back to the men and women who serve our country is very personal. My father, a Holocaust survivor, was liberated from Auschwitz by American troops. If not for them, I wouln't be here, nor would my children or grandchildren.

I have delivered on my promise to support veterans.

I'm proud to serve as the House's legislative liaison to the US Department of Defense State Liaison Office, introducing bills important to active military members and  veterans, including:

  • Expansion of veteran’s benefits in include additional members of armed forces reserves and National Guard to qualify for veteran status under state law (HB 1179).

  • Establishing active duty military and veterans located anywhere in the world as South Dakota residents for purposes of receiving in-state tuition rates to attend a state university (HB1057)

  • Requiring government agencies to determine if the veterans' preference applies when responding to a government job opening (HB 1056).

  • Requiring school districts to provide veterans a preference in employment (SB 90).

  • Revising the periods of time during which veterans may use tuition benefits at institutions under the control of the Board of Regents (HB 1163).
